Should you buy an agent skill pack or build your own?
Short answer: Build your own if you have time, enjoy tuning instructions, and only need one or two skills. Buy a pack if you want several skills that have been license-checked, read for risky scripts, and install-tested by someone else. Either way, read every SKILL.md before you let an agent run it.

What free skills cost you
Many good agent skills are free and open source. We build on them ourselves. Free does not mean no cost, though:
- Time. You find, read, install and try each one. A pack of ten means ten rounds of that.
- Unknown quality. A skill is a plain folder anyone can publish. Some are current and careful. Some are stale or half finished.
- License questions. Some repositories have no license, or a license that does not cover commercial use. Others bundle text copied from elsewhere. Using or reselling those carries risk.
- Safety. A skill can include scripts. Instructions can tell an agent to touch the network, delete files or read secrets. You only know if you read them.
A checklist before you buy (or install) anything
Use this for our packs and everyone else's.
- License listed. Is the source and its license named, with notices kept? If not, ask why.
- Commercial use allowed. Check the license text, not the marketing.
- Scripts reviewed. Does the seller say someone read the scripts and instructions? What did they look for?
- Clean-install test. Was the pack installed from scratch using only its own steps?
- Runtime test, stated honestly. Which tool and version did it run in, and when? "Works with" should mean someone ran it.
- Update policy. What happens when tools change?
- Refund terms. Are they written down? Ours are on the refunds page.
- Honest sourcing. Does the seller say what is original and what is based on other people's work?
When to build instead
Build your own when:
- You need one narrow workflow that is specific to your company.
- A free skill already does 90 percent of it and you can read it in ten minutes.
- You want to learn how skills work. Our plain guide to agent skills is a good start.
Buying is not better in every case. If a free skill fits and you have checked its license, use it.
What we do
Our packs are based on open-source work, tested and improved by Buy Agent Skills. We say so on every pack page. For each pack we:
- record the source, author, license and commit, and keep the license text;
- read the skills and scripts for anything unexpected;
- install from a clean folder and run structure and link checks;
- publish what was and was not tested, with dates.
For example, the Marketing Foundations Pack is based on MIT-licensed work by Corey Haines, and its credits are in the pack. We left three skills out because one of their cited sources had unclear rights. See How we test and Licenses.
Testing is not a guarantee for every project or setup. Tools change, and we update the test date when we retest.
FAQ
Can I get a refund? See the refunds page for the current terms.
Will I get updates? Your purchase covers the version you buy (v0.1). We have not announced an update plan yet; if that changes, the pack page will say so.
Are paid packs safer than free skills? Only if the seller actually reviews them. Ask what was checked, and read the files yourself either way.
Is this original work? No. Our packs are based on open-source work with credit to the authors.
